Default .280 Ackley build teaser pic...

    Got my barrel in today.

Bartlein 5R, 1-9" twist, .284, Rem Varmint contour

Got Kampfeld to do a little fluting. He does phenomenal work. Fluted for a 23" finished length.

    To be continued in January.

New build or are you rebarreling the 6.5-284?
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Its got just north of 900 on it. Didn't baby it, and it is showing.

Still shoots good, but velocity has dropped off and getting the occasional flyer.

It moved. Seriously. I want to build another .280 Ackley. On that taper, but with straight flutes, and 26" of tube. Nice, look forward to seeing it work out.

I hadn't heard of them before. $300 ain't bad to install a barrel.

No doubt. What they say about the 6.5-284 being a barrel burner was definitely true in my case.

I love the 6.5's, but wanted to build something with a more reasonable barrel life this time. From my research, I think its safe to assume somewhere between 2000-3000 for the .280 Ackley, which I can live with.

That said, I'm not bailing on the 6.5's, but future calibers will be .260, 6.5 creed, or 6.5x47.

You could stay in the LA and go with a 6.5'06

I miss my original 280 Ackley. Killing machine. I'm in that stage of life where I am buying my "toys" as best as I can before I fully retire and my income drops. If I build one, I'm thinking about a Defiant action and a Manners stock. But I would go Remington if I found a good action.
