    Default How to?

How do you pop out the breast on small birds (dove, marsh hen)?

A pair of shears/scissors to cut off the wings is a plus.

Bowl of water helps with the dove feathers also. What Dex said and peel back.
I'm going to heaven for the weather and hell for the company.

I can snap breast of dove out with two turns and a pop. I rekon we cleaned well over a hundred yesterday, well over. Capt Tom was over at the pile popping them out with my father. He said "you know it's impressive if I can teach your old man something". He did sort of the trailer hitch move on a dove. Mine moves with tow less steps, it was quick. If I have the time I still prefer them whole picked either myself doing it, or a quarter a piece that I pay to get them done.

I used to clean doves by the hundreds with my fellow mexican workers with a 5 gal bucket of water and a pair of leatherman pliers.

But, if you do it in the kitchen sink with the water running, your mom/wife/gf/babymomma/roomatewithbenefits will love you for it.

Breast up, put a thumb on either side of the keel of the breast, push down and out toward the wings to split the skin off. Right thumb under the point of the breast and crank it up and back towards the head. Take your LEFT hand and fold the wings and head down, grabbing the body of the bird and twist the breast off with your right hand. Takes about 5 seconds, maybe less, per bird.
