Im not trying to sound like an ass, but I really don't understand why people are hell bent on turning a dog that isn't a retriever into a retriever.

Retriever Field Trials and Hunt Tests were created to separate the wheat from the chaff among retrieving breeds. Look at the results. Labs, Goldens, and Chessies are the top 3. Boykins also have a place in a duck blind. (Yes, Chris the "Boykin hater" said something nice about Boykins)

My point is, it ain't rocket surgery. Stop trying to make it hard and just buy a damn dog that was bred to do what you want it to do. That "one dog for everything" shit was made up by the same bitch that came up with the "one boat" and "one shotgun" idea.

That wasn't all. I edited my post to properly explain my position. "Poor Kate" is front footing 200 yard marks at 9 months of age. You know why? It's because it's what she was bred to do.

Poor Kate is right. After our training day the other week, I tried to buy her from him. To see a dog that young doing walking singles at 150-180 yards in knee high cover was quite impressive. She will be a force to be reckoned with!

Weimaraners are good dogs if trained properly. Very smart. I have one and shes as cool as they come. I will say I think they need to be out all the time though they dont do well in a pen. Coats not thick enough for the ducks however.

I grew up with Springers at the house. Great family dogs, mild temperment and smart. Too damn smart sometimes. I think my next one will be a Springer.

    This.

The only reason to consider another breed is if you (your GF or wife) doesn't want dog hair covering everything in the house. If you don't care or you keep your working dogs outside, get a lab.

Not so sure about rocket surgery - glad it isn't brain science.

Does Feetdown approve of this dog as a retriever? If he wont pick up your birds, atleast you and your stuff is well protected.
