Default Oddly Enough, I NEED Help W/ A Simple Weapon (870)

Okay, so a guy at work gave me a task; two actually:

    1. Tighten the castle nut on his AR-15
    2. Fix his 870 that wouldn't slide the receiver to the rear
I figured, hell, that's nothin' and I'll be done in about 5 minutes.

I got the nut tightened without any problem (duh), but I'm somewhat baffled by the 870.

It was in the case with the barrel nut cap already off. No biggie. I made sure it was unloaded, and I tested the action. Sure enough, it won't slide to the rear all the way. About 3/4" of the bolt stays pictured in the ejection port.

I go to remove the barrel to diagnose the problem, and the barrel will NOT come off. I've banged it a few times on the floor, but it won't budge.

I don't quite understand how it could be "stuck" in the receiver.

I'm guessing I should probably add some lube and try with a piece of wood and a mallet to tap it out forwards through the ejection port.

Again, I'm at a loss as to why it may be stuck.

    Ideas?

It could be rusted in to the receiver, or just jammed in at a slight angle. Also, check to see if the barrel is slightly roatated and the "mag tube barrel bracket", or whatever it's called (brain fart here), may be jamming the barrel in place. Just in case, try twisting the barrel each way to see if it loosens things up a little.

If that doesn't work, the next thing I'd try is to soak some lube in around the barrel tang in the receiver, leave the magazine cap off, and then 'slam' the bolt closed. This may be enough to pop the barrel off.

If it were MY weapon, I'd just go apeshit on it.

It's not mine. So I'll be a bit more gentle.

Woodie -- I'll try to rotate. I think I may even have my wife hold one side and me the other and us just pull.

This screw is stuck between the magazine tube and the barrel. It's stuck in there pretty good.

Since I found the screw, I'm going to return the gun like it is and have him remove it because I don't see a way to easily do it without markin' up something. I'd rather have him booger it up than him blame me.

Here's the best I could do:

Again, I'm more than sure that I could get it out, but I'm not gonna risk messing anything up. It's not my gun.

One little thing to check.......Check the magazine follower and see if there is any interference with the shell release lever. In other words make sure that nothing is rubbing the mag follower during the cycle.
If it ain\'t accurate at long distance, then the fact that it is flat shooting is meaningless.
