Default ill never only breast out a turkey again.

cuz damn them legs make for a hell of a good meal....

on my last turkey, i kept the legs, instead of just breasting it out like i have always done. i threw them rascals, along with the two breast tenderloins incase the legs didnt turn out, into the crock pot. seasoned them up good with salt, pepper, creole seasoning, and a little garlic powder. cut up three or four large redskin potatoes, three onions, and a few carrots. threw them all in with the turkey, and added a can of cream of mushroom soup and about a cup of water. let cook on low from 8am until 6pm. then i pulled the turkey legs out and pulled the meat off the bones, and threw it back in the pot. cooked some good old "white wice" and that shit made for a damn good easy meal. kinda like a beef stew, or "turkey stew".

im just pissed that i had never tried it before, and pissed that i have wasted all that good meat for so many years.

its damn sure worth a try.

Thanks for the info. I've always thought the legs were too tough to mess with, but then I've never tossed any in the crock pot either. Good info!

Legs and thighs make for some fine sloppy joes too.

Don't overlook mallard legs and thighs either. I haven't tried them....but....

Back in the 80s when we'd go to Arkie there was an old trapper who traveled around the country following the trapping season out there from his home in Colorado. He traveled in an old school bus he'd converted to a camper, kept it parked near the ramp at the Meto. He was there to trap the beaver so he was all over the flooded oaks and knew every inch of them. That meant he knew the holes the ducks were using.

He'd tell you where the ducks were for a "price". That price was if you'd give him all the duck legs. He loved them. We breasted our ducks, so we'd just donate the rest of the carcass, legs, backs and thighs, to him.

I hate I never asked him how he prepared them. I know they're tough as pig-iron so I figure he must have stewed them somehow.

Simmer those duck legs in gravy and you will never discard them again.
