Here is a public THANK YOU to all those of you who have worked so hard to keep migratory ducks coming to SC. Without the vast sums of money that you have put into your lands over the decades, SC would have been forgotten to migrating ducks for all time.

The state and federal governments have refused to step up to the plate and take care of things across the state so we all owe you a great debt of gratitude for your efforts.

As you get ready to plow those acres, plant that seed, and write those big checks to pay for it all, remember that there are plenty of duck hunters in this state who appreciate everything that you do.

I agree that the private land owner has done a great deal to keep migratory waterfowl wintering in SC.
The state & federal government claims their hands are tied because the money is just not there. But they HAVE made a difference by purchasing thousands of acres & maintaining them for waterfowl on their shoestring budget. I can only speak for coastal counties, but I've seen first hand conservation practices of maintaining dike systems, controlled burning & flooding to produce habitat for large numbers of ducks. I know of one 600 acre federal impoundment that was holding over 10,000 pintails & almost that many green-winged teal in January 06'. The birds need areas where there is zero harrassment & these refuges work hand in hand with private properties.
