    Default CD/DVD drive

My CD/DVD drive will not recognize any disc I put in it. I did a search online to find an update for the driver, but it said I already have it installed. I have a Dell Inspiron 531S. What else can I do?

Cheaper and easier to just buy a new dvd burner @ around 20 bucks

Your computer may not have a full size CD drive. If it does, it's around $20. If not, it could be a good bit more.

What's considered full size? Are you referring to the size of the CD or the size of the drive? Where would be the best place to pick one up?

You would have to open the case on the computer and see what size it is.

    Fullsize: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827136240

    Slim Size: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151242

Looks like the fullsize in Bub's link.

    Dimensions are 5.75" x 6.75" x 1.625"

Sure is. Buy a regular dvd drive somewhere and you'll be in good shape. Did it have a ribbon cable (IDE) plugged in the back or just a small connector(SATA)? I'm not talking about the power plug on the back.

If it's SATA, the link I sent you should be fine. Order it, turn the PC off, install and you're in business.

It's stamped SATA on the housing and has the small connector. Thanks again for the help!
