a 4x8 NidaCore panel only weighs 26 lbs. I'd need roughly 2/3 of that so, 18 lbs & another 10 lbs or so for glass mat & resin. Add another 10 lbs for deck stringers. Battery would go under the console, fuel tank up front, losing a little weight by eliminating the livewell & front bench...I'm thinking this is doable.

X3 on missing the tiller. Those boats are not big enough to justify losing that chunk of deck. Also lost is the ability to turn on a dime.

Also, I have never run one with a 40. Only 60's and 90's. They are very weight sensitive in the transom, so compare the weight of a 40 over a 60. If it is fractional, I urge the 60..

Speaking of 60's beware the merc 60's. The top cylinder has a habit of blowing due to it distance to the water pump. If you have a build up of trash in the water jacket, it is just a matter of time before it overheats.
    Shh..don't let mine hear that.

I'm not looking for speed w/ this rig. That being said, I'm really leaning towards a 60 Merc. Also, MI Tide is building me a side console (going to pick it up in G-town tomorrow) so a tiller is no longer necessary.
I think I know that boat, you out of shelter cove?

Bigfoot, after the first time my top cylinder blew, I made it an annual thing to remove the water jacket, (at the same time I replaced the water pump) and clean all the sand, pebbles, and shells out. You would be amazed at how much I took out.

Despite my efforts, I blew the top cylinder a second time, for the exact same reason.

For the record, I never blew a cylinder until I moved to Columbia and started running the rivers up here.

That's on my agenda one weekend very soon then.

I'm sure mine won't be run quite as much here soon..if all goes well I'll have my Skeeter next week.

Console is set in place - I'm gonna have to do some cutting & a little glass work. $200 from the factory & I got to pick the color - matches close enough for me.

Front bench is coming out tomorrow. If anyone wants it, I'll save it. Otherwise, it's going in the dumpster. It provides no structural support (as per the guy who builds 'em) & it'll clear up a bunch of deck space.

I still kick myself for not buying it when he mentioned he may as well sell it.

It is a solid motor, and he knows better than to buy "the buzz" instead of tried and true.
