So, yesterday evening, my two year old daughter and I were sitting on the front porch watching different birds come and go from the bird feeder we have in the yard. She's always been very interested in wildlife, so I do my best to teach her about them and expose them to her as much as possible. Whether it be watching the Discovery Channel, hunting shows, or letting her examine the wild game that I harvest. Anyway, while sitting there watching the birds, I see her head look up and she says, "Daddy....duck....kack-kack (quack in her language)"! Dang it if I didn't look up and there were 2 woodrows flying over the house! Now...I don't know if it was just coincidence that she knew they were ducks...or if she truly recognized them? Either way...it put a huge smile on my face and assured me that I am leading her down the correct path. Kids have a very unique way of making you look at life!

Their perception and attention to detail is uncanny. I know my 3 year old easily tells the difference between ducks and geese in flight and has done this for better than a year and I can't recall him ever calling a song bird a duck. And I don't think he is "gifted", I think all kids can tell the difference if it is made clear to them. Proof that if you learn something when you are young it is easier when you are older.

Ask him what is on his shirt and you expect to hear him say "dinosaur", instead he tells you what kind of dinosaur it is.

Now that is gonna leave a mark!

Man would I like to see that email.

And I call BS on the genetics thing, kids minds are like sponges, and they learn at an unbelievable rate at that age. It is almost osmosis from there surroundings.

Nice M6! Every time I walk out the door, this little beautie wants to know if she can "go hunt'nin?" Bubba (brother) quickly replies that she is too young.....maybe....but she knows her ducks and her deer!
