    Default Rabbit and A Hog

Never seen anything like it. Joined a new club behind the farm, and was taking a buddy of mine to show him the place today (trying to get him to join next year). We was driving down one of the club's rock roads, and out of know where a pretty good sized rabbit jumped in the road about 20 yards from truck - going from our right to left (big 300 acre 5 year old cut over on my left) no big deal right. When the rabbit hits the road and then starts running down the road in front of the truck for about 50 yards, before cutting back to the left into the big cut over. Well, about the time the rabbit starts running down the road good. This 200 - 250lb boar flies out into the road (right in front of the truck, don't know how i didn't hit him with truck) and starts running after the rabbit. I mean just like a beagle would running a rabbit. Track for track. And that hog wasn't to far behind the rabbit either. When the rabbit hooked the left into the cutover, the hog went right in behind it. Me and My buddy both looked at it each other and said, was that hog chasin' that rabbit? I pulled up to where i thought the hog and rabbit had went in at, but it was to thick to see anything. It happened so quick that i didn't have a chance to grab the gun. Damnedest Thing I'd ever did see.

What ya'll think? Hog chasing rabbit? Or not.. I know hogs can eat small animals, but will they run em down like that?

Never would have thunk it, but certainly plausible. They will eat anything.

I wouldnt imagine they would expend so much energy to get such a small meal though.

I don't see why not, they contribute to the fawn mortality.

Rabbits stop frequently enough in a run for a hog not to expend that much energy. Unless you are in dense agriculture, they have very little to eat considering their numbers this time of year.

Shame on ya for not having a pea shooter on the ready in hog country.

Omnivour, pigs will eat anything. Wouldn't think one would chase a rabbit though.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I've actually seen a video of a wild hog in India chasing down and eating a rabbit.... so, yeah, I can see it.

Mores the reason to choot 'em.

My rabbit and hog story (a la Mergie)...

Once upon a time, JAB and I saw 2 rabbits chasing a piglet.

Well, it turnt out to be 3 piglets. So we runned over 'em with the truck.

    The End.

My cousin raises a few pigs every year for his winter time freezer inventory.

I have seen, first hand, what a pig can do to a rabbit in short order.

I have no doubt that pig was after the rabbit.

Maybe, just maybe..... You scared the rabbit off of the edge of the road and then went up a little further and scared a hog too. I know this is a stretch but maybe...........

LOL.. No man.. Didn't even have a beer yet..

Ya know, I wouldn't of thought anything of it if the hog would of jumped out in front of the truck and then ran straight across the road.. But to run down the road for a good 50 yards in front of the truck and about 20 yards or so behind the rabbit.. And cut in the same place the rabbit did.. I'm just pissed that i didn't have my gun readily available.. It will be for now on..

Maybe the "rabbit" was actually a pig that looked like a rabbit.
