    Default Home Gym

Recently got clearance from The Warden that I can turn the bonus room over the garage into a dedicated home gym. I'm stoked about building it out.

Equipmentwise, I have most of the essentials now and am piecing together more equipment from craigslist as it becomes available.

I have been doing crossfit wods for a couple of years and pretty much know what I want but I am open to suggestions too if you think I am leaving out something super cool and fun.

    Essential Equipment:

    Olympic bar
    Rubber bumper plates
    Weight rack
    Squat rack
    Kettlebells
    24" box
    Medicine ball
    Flat bench
    Jump rope
    Horse stall mats.

I plan to build a jungle gym that will include high and low pullup bars, and a dip station. I can do ring dips off the high pullup bar. My cleilings aren't really tall enough to justify a rope.

I live less than half a mile from the bay so I can just run over there, swim, row, etc so that saves on a rowing machine since I just use the kayak which is more fun anyway.

I can spend hours looking at all the motivating posters etc to decorate with but thats all fluff. As far as equipment goes what else would you suggest?

Oh yeah.. Forgot about a tire and hammer.

Maybe add a heavy punching bag to beat the shit out of too.

Was going to suggest a sand bag too.

    Good one!

Used to do a workout called "sandbag get ups" which are fun.

Put the sandbag on the ground, lay down with your shoulder against it and your hand grabbing it. Then simply stand up! It takes a really strong core! Got the idea off of militaryathlete.com which is similiar to crossfit.

Sand bag cleans. Presses. Get ups. Carries.

We do sand bag burpees. Burpee is finished with a SB clean rather than a "jump".

    They suck ass.

Haul that shit to an affiliate or invite a bunch of crossfitters over and they'll split every stick for you. Especially if you tell 'em they can't do it.

Not a huge crossfitter myself, but still a gym rat. If you have room put in a sit-up bench, and a set of 50-100lb dumbells. Make sure that you get an adjustable bench.
