    Here's the original letter:

    Dear Governor Sanford,
I write to bring to your attention to the fact that the S.C. Department of Natural Resources Board, which you appointed, recently rejected recommendations for the 2005-06 waterfowl season submitted to them by the wildlife professionals with the Department of Natural Resources. The DNR board then changed these recommendations without seeking advice from the wildlife management professionals within the working ranks of the DNR. These changes significantly reduced hunting opportunities for the residents of South Carolina.

I am concerned not just because of the loss of hunting opportunities triggered by these changes but because these changes have no basis in sound wildlife management. I am disappointed that a board put in place to provide oversight has so breeched its mandated role. With all due respect, these lay board members do not have the education or experience to make competent wildlife management decisions.

I am asking as a South Carolinian, taxpayer, and as a voter, that you please look into this situation and hopefully provide a remedy for this year’s waterfowl season. I would like to be kept informed during your investigation since I would like to pass on any information to the many other South Carolina waterfowlers who share my concern.

P.S. I am sorry that I am not able to provide a link to the minutes from the August SCDNR board meeting because they have not yet been posted on the internet.

Actually, that would be the first step, fact finding/...perhaps the director will give a strong statement that will have ole gov getting after it.

Other than it took so long for his follow-up, I see no problem with him putting Frampton on the spot. He's the one who should be responding to the challenge of why the board did what they did. The fact that he's been told to copy the Governor serves the purpose of giving the Governor a basis to hold him accountable for doing what they did - pro or con.

I'll be very interested in Frampton's reply.

Thanks for writing your original letter.
