    Default Kansas Cull Hunt

Tagged out on the third day of the hunt after seeing close to 25 different bucks and 30 does in 5 hunts. Including some good looking younger bucks and passing on a 300lbs 120+" eight point at 15yrds. Saw everything from fighting, to chasing, deer making rubs and scrapes, and coyotes chasing deer. Shot him from a ground blind at 25yrds overlooking a draw. It's an unbelievable feeling to be eye level with such a creature. It took a while to get come to full draw as he tried every trick in the book to catch me making a mistake. Deer weighed 244lbs and green scored 145 1/8. Not 100% sure about the age but an old deer 6+

    Excellent!

I wish I could breathe life back in him, if I could I'd hunt him again tomorrow. - Ben Rodgers Lee

    Awesome!

Two questions though, how did you get that tail to stand up like that? Is that the new trophy pose?

Hunted with a buddy who brings in a couple of hunters a year on the side to help manage the herd. Not hard to find him but surprisingly he ran close to 200 yrds after a rage went through both lungs and his heart. Left him hanging for two days before we took pictures.

Nice buck, looking to make my first trip to Kansas next year.

Never said it wasn't a great buck Sprig but when you are growing 170-180" whitetails at 4.5 years old this is considered a cull. It has nothing to do with trying to be cool. A cull is based on the type of genetics you are trying to build within your herd.

    Icky

That was a nice buck, and I'm sure you're proud. In no way is that a cull buck, unless they charged you for killing. I agree with Sprig. There is no reason to add a little quip or slang to a great kill. You killed a good buck, and to talk your kill down gives a discredit to him and yourself. Just say it. I know you were damn proud, and I would be.

I bet 2th would take that kill and call it a booner even if its in his own mind.
