You might as well learn that a man who catches fish or shoots game has got to make it fit to eat before he sleeps. Otherwise it’s all a waste and a sin to take it if you can’t use it.” - Robert Ruark

depends on which part of the Saluda... in Columbia attractors are best, bead head prince nymphs, BH hare's ears, streamers, etc.
My minimal trout experience is strictly limited to the Lake Murray tailwater. Although I don't know a whole lot about trout in general, I have caught a mess of them from this river. And my conclusion is that nymphs are the way to go. I've watched them rise to apparently nothing for hours on end. I've casted dries until carpel tunnel was a possibility. Stick with nymphs. The later in the spring, the smaller the fly.......word on the street is Doc Moats is a rock hoppin, trout bum, from way back.

If the fish are rising but you don't see a hatch coming off, you should try an emerger pattern.

From what I heard they are stocking the saluda with big trout now due to people using the small ones for bait. Anybody else heard that?

Them big trout get ate too!
I doubt it do to the cost. I do believe the corn fisherman that use them for bait do more damage than the stripers. I like to take the 8wt and pull big half anf halfs up there too when they run. I know some guy with the Saluda River TU that have done well on that River with the stripers.
double it up young bucs, drop that #16 or 14 nymph and about a 14" line of the hook to an #18 or 20 olive soft hackle emerger....
good stuff.
no false casting with the dropper, just drift and flip... you can fish 3 with no problem.
I'm going monday, if any of you pros want to come show me some secrets

We caught large browns in the Saluda, the rainbows were usually small.

I've been 3 times. The first two I caught a handful of fresh stocked fingerlings and a few normal 12-14 inch rainbows. I threw the rod for about 30 minutes during lunch today and caught 2 really nice browns and 1 normal rainbow.
