    Default Dove Field/Deer Stand Distance

How far do ya'll feel is adequate distance from a dove field to a deer feeder to be legal. This is relating to pipe feeders, not spinners or ground scattering. The field has plenty adequate corn, sorghum, and sunflowers and has a large powerline the full length of the field.

Does not make a bit of difference what we think. You better check with you local dnr officer.

I'll go along with that. I just was wondering, since many of you have deer property and dove fields, what you think is adequate spacing between the two activities. I have hunted on farms that where large fields that were planted half soybeans and half sunflowers also had stands and corn piles in the back end of the field that were considered legally distanced with the DNR. I have also seen fields gigged with a deer stand located 150 yards from the field in thick timber.

Yeah, I am thinking they would just call it a judgement call and view intent. Looks like some stands will get out of service for a while.

I called and asked our local warden and he said that as long as we were not shooting over the field with the corn pile and that there was not obvious intent to be using the corn as bait for doves, we were good. I have a deer stand 200 yards from our dove field and he was ok with that. Granted we have a 15 acre dove field that is planted for that alone and no ones cares about venturing from that field to find birds.

I'd call your local warden and just ask. If you explain it, they remember and if they give you the all clear, they'll remember that when they check you later on.

DNR told me the exact same thing. i would set the feeder up with no corn in it and call DNR to come sign off on the field before you shoot it. if he says its to close, move it back

Don't flirt with it unless you can afford and attorney. DNR officer may think it's a "judgement call", a federal wildlife agent may think otherwise.

Cajun, the Fed's do have different "judgements" don't they. I have 25 stands in place now. I guess not feeding the two possible "judgement call offenders", won't hurt too much

Why put out corn when you have a dove field to hunt over/around?

I wouldn't think pipe feeders would matter. Especially if they were in the woods and not the field proper.
