    just passing this along....

got a call from Wannamaker Seed in St Matthews. They have 6-8 bags of "whistling wings duck rice" left. they are $79/bag. wach bag should plant multiple acres. bobby is checking on that and whether or not it is suitable to plant in standing water.

it is short grain, low maintenance, and high germination.

if interested, call bobby at 803-707-1117

well...maybe so...but lots of places sell rice and i remember people asking about it and felt it would be appropriate to help them improve the habitat for ducks.

suitable to plant in standing water.
If you can "see" the bottom then your getting enough sunlight for it to grow.

WHISPERING Wings rice. 50lbs/acre. may be planted in 2-4 inches of water but must be incorporated in soil with ATV or chain or something.

    end of message.

Just hitchiking on these instructions.......soak over night before attempting any planting in water. Otherwise all the seed will float off or to one end on the flooded area.

I am ignorant on this subject. How would I plant in a beaver swamp with pleanty of shallow water but no tractor access? Can this be done by hand, or with four wheeler impliments?

I have a big swamp, but it is way too wet for even 4 wheelers most of the time. 5 creeks converge on one 10 acre expanse, between two high bluffs with deep channels on each edge.

A local who used to poach the property told me that if I were to corn it up all the corn would end up stacked on the beaver dam. Catdaddy has a point.!!! LOL!!!
