I have a marsh/pond on my property that is infested with ducks and geese, mallards, woodies, some black ducks and teal, canadas. the marsh is just over an acre, the water is only 3 to 4 inches deep. the bottom is mush you can sink up to your neck in spots. does anyone know what i can get to grow in this to keep the ducks coming back after we start shooting. now when we start they go light in the river and dont come back. need something that will grow and keep them coming back so the hunting lasts longer than just an hour or two. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    is it freshwater?
    can you drain it?
if so plant rice, jap millet, brown top, chufa etc.
if its brackish water, find some widgeon grass and start pouring to it

Unfortunity there is NOTHING you can grow that will make them keep coming back under that kind of pressure.

Only time will take care of pressure.

An hour or two is too much for the season or per week or a day?

It sounded to me like he wanted to plant something that would just keep coming back,in the face of gunfire, all day instead of an hour or two(which is the amount of time he has been pressuring them per hunt).

    I don't know of anything.......maybe you do.

If thats the case I don't think even shelled corn would do the trick.

if you can drain it, you can plant more than jap.

no offense to jap...because it is a good duck food, but if you have control over the water, you could attract and hold more ducks with corn....and it CAN be planted by hand. takes some time and sweat, but it can be done.

    got a tractor?

    i have a tractor.

the only concern i have with this pond is that it is about 150 yards off a backroad. my jackass neighbors will come over to this place and hunt it if they see tons of ducks coming in there.

deer will not eat the jap, but the songbirds will.

swamper--you can plant millet in 6" of water. CLEAR water helps, in my tests. you could also try some of the rices and stuff like that.

try spandlesnursery.com. if that aint the web addy, google spandles nursery. they are in georgia, i think.

Its fresh water, unfortuantly i cant drain it, i was told that wild rice would be good for it. the ducks dont get hardly any pressure its just if you shoot they can go get in the river and be safe. trying to give them something they cant resist so they'll come on back in. thanks for all your help.
