tags won't work unless they are based on a acreage system...example...you and two of your buddies get two bucks tags each to hunt the 1000 acre lease that you bust your chops to pay the lease and manage (6 buck tags). the 1000 acres next to you is lease to the "if its brown its down hunt club" with 33 members.(66 buck tags). you get the picture. there is only so much land and deer move around. your hunting does affect the quality of your neighbors hunting. if you look at the deer/sq mile in this state, 25+ is considered a lot. that is 640 acres. most clubs that size kill 25 deer. i don't care what you call it or whether you like it, but with a little self control, that's right self control over the trigger and change in mindset that you are not entitled, that's right not entitled to kill every deer you see, this state could enjoy a better quality of deer hunting.

A tag system would be just like the turkey tag system, WORTHLESS! Unless you have to check them in it's a waste. I shot 17 four years ago at the farm in order to try to take all the doe tags, 11 the following year, 2 last year and 2 this year. I def don't want to mess w 17 or 11 deer in one season again. Plus I think I'm getting soft about killing shit!

i got ya glenn, i will still suport them, but if you are unfortunate to own/hunt land next to the club scene, nothing is going to change for you. the states that have seen huge improvements in the age structure of bucks don't have a year long season. if you're gonna go the tag route, go ahead and make rifle season one week not include the rut and you might make some headway.

You can kill 2 bucks, and 10 does. You have a deer harvest record on your license and are required to fill it out. Nothing filled in on my license because my deer have been taken in SC so far this year.

10 does whenever you wanna kill em and 2 bucks for the season, 1 of which must have 4 or more on 1 side. You get a card with your license, must carry it with you and you sign them off when you kill them and prior to moving them.

Big bodied deer for sure. A 275# buck is not uncommon on some of the plantations down here in SW GA

Because I was born and raised in SC, have property in SC, and will spend the better part of my life in SC.

The best plan would be a tag system based on hunters per acre, not just harvest per acre.

The DNR doesn't have the ability to micro manage every property in the state.

If a tag system ever becomes a reality, it will be a liberal one. Folks that heavily manage their property will still be far more restrictive.

Right on CD. DNR needs to start with the WMA's. They should be able to study and manage their WMA's properly based on deer herds, not one size fits all. Then, when that front porch is clean and swept properly, we can move to other things. Our WMA's are some of the worst managed in the Country. I read it on www.rivals.com

So what has more to do with Georgia's Whitetail Management success?

Killing 2 bucks and 10 does?

    or

Having deer "released" from another region, where they are almost a different strain of the same species?
