    the 4wd light...

when you push the button 4hi and 4lo lights blink a few times and you can hear it engage and the disengage then it returns to 2wd

sounds like the trancase actuator. check all grounds first then make sure its plugged in tight.

Check that damn switch on the dash first. I had one in my old 2002 that would blink when you would hit it and the lights would go off all the way, no 4wd. Bought new push buttons for the dash and had 4wd again, $25 I do believe.

try unplugging the transfer case control module and then plug it back in, try engaging 4wd again (make sure your in neutral, coasting at 1-2 mph might help as well)

With my 93 it was and still is the transfer case control module.I unhook the battery for about a beer to clear codes, hook it back up and get to switch to 4X for about 10 times.
