    Default Trout in Colorado

I had the opportunity to flyfish out west earlier this month. This was my first time to the Rockies and the sporting opportunities are truly remarkable. The fish were fairly agressive and we were catching them mostly on indicators - primarily hoppers. Here are a few pictures I would like to share.

Does CO want the brook trout killed?

They did when I was there. But that was over 10 years ago. The limits on brookies up in Rocky Mountain National Park were liberal to say the least.

I do not know exactly what their stance is but just by reading the regs I would guess so. The regulations allow you to keep 4 trout being a combo of browns or rainbows. Additionally, you could keep up to eight brooks. To me this means that they are managing them through ample limits.

In the east, Nat Park Service and VA DGIF (with TU helping) tosses browns on the bank during shocking surveys of brook trout water in the Shenandoah National Park.

Southeast Colorodo in the Sangre de Christo mountain range and in the Colorado Springs area. Would love to do a cast and blast there one day!

Did ya go and check out the sand dunes on the western side of the Sangre de Christo's? That state is a big ol'playground!

Funny how that works Boonie... I'll keep all the brookies they want.

Next time bring your shotgun, one of my favorite trout holes is a half mile walk from this public dove area... cast and blast indeed.

    That's a trip I can't wait to make...

Moatsy, I'll take you up on that trip in a heartbeat.
