LIME and how to spread it

I have a friend in to columbia area, he has a good size pond that he limes, he dumps it in by the bobcat bucket load and stirs the water with a boat motor.

Two directions of course to keep it evenly spread as possible...

When I had to do it at the plantation I worked on, we dumped front end loader buckets full around the edges, used the boat to put a fair amount in the middle, and then got paid to run a jon boat back and forth to stir it up. We ended up beaching the front of the boat in various places and using the motor to "stir" the water so to speak. Worked pretty well I'd guess, but definitely not the most scientific approach.

If you have a deep pocket in the middle, I would drain it down and spread the piss out of it.

1. dig hole
2. line hole with plastic (or not depending on soil conditions)
3. fill hole with water
4. add lime
5. insert suction end of large trash pump
6. insert discharge end in pond
7. start pumping
8. move as necessary - repeat steps 3 & 4 as necessary
9. fill hole when finished

Sounds like a hella idear...but the pond is diked. Dig a hole and you break the dike. It is surrounded by swamp.

This problem intrigues me as well...

pond is 11 acres and maybe 10ft at deepest point.

let's not overthink it or we might lose the opportunity to make a day out of it...

1. dump at several locations in the edge of the pond

2. place large trash pump on boat with outboard motor.

3. mix with outboard motor while pumping with trashpump - discharge line should be aimed toward center of pond. you can add or subtract sections of discharge line to get better coverage

4. move along from pile to pile until it's all gone.

whirlpool created by a continous circling of boat with outboard motor will bring lime from the edge toward the center

it would be tough to do on 11 acres though, but with enough boats.....
