1 Dead After Air Force Base Guard Opens Fire at Stolen Car

A shooting and car crash on Luke Air Force Base in Litchfield, Ariz., have left one person dead and another injured, KSAZ Phoenix reported.

At 11 p.m. Monday night two individuals ran the main base entrance gate with their car, said Capt. Gonzales, a spokesman at Luke Air Force Base.

A security forces officer reportedly confronted two men inside the car, previously reported stolen, said Officer Karen Gerardo, the public information officer at the Glendale Police Department.

When the officer got out of his car to try to make contact with the two men, the car drove directly at him. The officer shot at the car, which then crashed, said Gerardo.

One of the occupants of the vehicle was killed. His cause of death has not been determined.

The other person in the car was injured and transported to a hospital.

Investigators do not suspect terrorism, said Gerardo. They don't believe the men were anything other than car thieves, said Gonzales.

The base trains pilots to fly F-16s.

A friend of mine told me that a sailor was running from police many years back and made it to the Chas Naval Weapon Station gate far enough ahead to show his ID and be waved in. The cop following him just ran the gate and got his back window shot out. They give gate guards simple instructions, don't let anybody get through that isn't authorized. They do not have any discretion. They have orders.

We used to have a saying, "No one joins the Air Force to carry an M-16." If you see someone in the Air Force with one, they have either f&cked up so bad or as in the case of the rescue guys are so bad ass you do not want to screw with them. The guys that line the tarmac on hot SC days with M-16s are dark, dark insensitive bastards...and the Air Force likes it that way. MG

Gate guards on Shaw are mostly private forces now, same at Ft Jackson.

They don't play. And they shouldn't.

Those car thieves were "bought and paid for" by their own stupidity. In this era, running the gate on a military installation is a low percentage action.
