stirpers in the rivers

How early do the stripers start making their way up the river? the anticipation is killing me...

They left the the upper part of Wateree years ago.

We didn't start getting any fish until about mid March last year--which was a little later than past years. I'm ready to get after them myself. Won't be long now !

If it is anything this year like it was the last couple, Im not even going. 5 years ago I could wade in the Congaree and catch all I could stand somedays.

I remember when 20 pound + fish were relatively common in the river, and you could catch 'em that big at the Gervais Street bridge on Striper Swipers.

Hence the new laws, I reckon. I hope that it rebounds.

I use to striper fish below the Lake Murray dam when you could drive down by the gates and caught 20+ lb fish all the time. Those were the good ole days.

My dad says he used to catch 15-20 pounders as quick as I catch peanuts today.

I caught fish at Gervais that were over 15 when I was in school here about 7 years ago...Its amazing how it has dropped off sense then. You couldn't beat going out there before dark and throw a 6 inch creek chub and watch one blow up on it

We used to fish the bank at Gardendale in between the dam and Gervais St. Bottom fish all day long with live or cut herring. Early AM and Late afternoon, Striper Swipers, and anything top water. 9 out of 10 fish was 15+ lbs. But that was 10 years ago.
