    Default Venison Stew

want to make some before the 2010 winter storm hits this weekend.....i know it's hard to mess up, but is there anything that is a 'must'....i'm sure FG will have something to say about using the crockpot, but it's the method i plan to use

    cut cubed steak
    cubed red potatoes
    cut carrots
    cut celery
    chopped onion
    salt and black pepper
    beef broth
    bay leaves
    dash of flour
    worcestershire sause
    stewed matos
    corn

    garlic?
    bacon fat?
    liquid smoke?

do you brown or marinate your meat before putting in pot?

figure making this and serving over rice with some cornbread.....should be a good lunch for friday and satyrday

I actually batter and fry my meat before I put in the pot to cook. Gently place in crock pot and don't stir around too much and knock the goodies off the meat.
He would have been nice next year.

Made some this morning before going to work. I use the neck meat for my stew. I know a lot of guys who waste this part of the deer because of all the silver lining, but it all cooks down to nothing. There's nothing elaborate about it. This is definitely not 5-star worthy, but I love it nonetheless.

Place 3-4 pounds of neck meat in a crock pot with two cans of beef broth and 1 can of chicken broth
    Douse it with worchestershire sauce
Pour in some steak seasoning (whatever you have in the cabinet)
Sprinkle in some onion & garlic powder
    Cook overnight
Drain the broth from the meat retaining 1/2 of the liquid in a pot
Clean up anything out of the meat that didn't cook down.
Shred the meat with a fork and pour in left over liquid
Add 1 can of tomato soup or sauce
    Douse it with ketchup
Add a little more worchestershire sauce
    Stir thoroughly to mix
While doing the above after the meat is finished cooking, cook 2 bags of frozen stew veggies
    Add veggies to pot
Add 1 can of sweet peas
    Stir thoroughly

This makes a very thick stew--not soupy at all. Great for reheating at hunt camp.
