I went to Snowshoe about 5 years ago for my anniversary. It snowed from the time we got there and for two more days. It was awesome!! The only thing is the long winding drive once you get off the interstate, that drive sucks!

Things I learned from past visits to Snowshoe.
1. Beer stays colder on the porch than it does in Refridgerator.
2.Watch your equipment/stuff at all times, unless you want to buy more of it.
3. 8 of them Oil Can foster lager beers will give you a brain tumor the following day.
4. Watch out for your buddies putting a cigarette butte in about your 7th and 8th Oil Can Foster lager beer. It dont taste good.
5. Make sure you got enough gas to get up and back down the mountain, its about 45 cent more a gallon at the top.
6. Dont tell your buddies you brought those 20 or so mini bottles to the slopes unless you only really wanted to take about 3.
7. Take an alarm clock, Eat the stinkenist, greasiest food you can find each night but DO NOT be the guy that gets last shot at the shitter before the next days festivities, it aint a pretty sight and it dont smell none to good either, I mean its already swallowed about 10 copperheads by the time you get on it, especially if you had 7 or 8 oil can foster lager beers the night before.
8. Pretending to be the worlds bestest, fastest, awesomist, nuttbustinnest skier for more than 3 days will inflict an additional 10 days of pain well after you've come off the mountain. The good side of this is you dont have to drink any more Oil Can foster lager beers.

Went 2 years ago and had a blast. Got down to 7 degrees one night and snowed 2 of the 4 days we were there. Fuuny thing happened on the 3rd day. On the last run of the day (about 3:15) all the guys went over to the Cupp Run. Got to the lip of the mountain and was getting ready to go when one of the guys turned around and said "FUCK THAT", knocked off his skis and started walking back up. This little fucker (about 7-8 years old) boarded past and called him a pussy!!! We laughed our asses off. Great time and damn the snow bunnies

snowshoe can be a real hoot... ditto on the watching equipment deal, I had a druken WV local in the ER one night tell me that he knows people who dont have to work because of the money they make stealing at Snowshoe.

anyone been out west this year? going to Breckenridge in March.

I went around 10 years ago. When we left Atlanta that morning it was 32 degrees, it peaked around Charlotte at 34 degrees, and by the time we reached the top of Snowshoe that evening it was 15 BELOW (before windchill, and the wind was howling at 25 mph or so). I heard it actually got down to 20-25 Below by the next morning when we went skiing. That is definitely the coldest my southern ass has ever been.

It's worth the extra drive over NC, and is probably the closest you will come to skiing out west, but it is still a far, far cry from skiing out west.
