Default “500 Point” HRCH UH Darby’s Teal Boy OCH07 ICH04

On October 31st, 2009 “500 Point” HRCH UH Darby’s Teal Boy OCH07 ICH04 crossed the rainbow bridge to hunt in the field of his dreams. He gave our family a wonderful ride in the life of competing Boykin Spaniels. I would have never guessed 8 years ago when Susan inquired with the south’s oldest kennel……The Post & Courier newspaper…… for our 2nd Boykin Spaniel that it would have led us down the road of training for hunt tests & field trials. Through Teal, we have acquired many friends over the last several years that cannot be replaced. I truly believe one could say that dogs are not only man’s best friend but are our true personal ambassadors. As for many who have had success with their Boykin, Teal represents our pinnacle. He stoked the fire to follow a regiment of dedicated training over the last several years where he taught us what was required to be a great hunting dog and champion. Through his absolute desire to please he was able to show me what he needed in his training as we worked through the many challenges that we faced along the way.

Not only was Teal a great retriever and hunting partner, he was a member of the Darby family. From his “happy snort” to show he was glad to see you, to his mischievous antics of sneaking the cat’s food or sneaking upstairs to snatch a stuffed animal out our daughter’s bedroom and happily give it to Susan or I, he provided much entertainment and always filled our hearts with joy.

Ten weeks ago when we were given Teal’s diagnosis of granulated lymphoma, several of my close training friends and their dogs gathered for a last shot flyer for Teal. It was a day that I will never forget. What a dog!

    The Darby Family,

    Chris, Susan, Chad & Kelsey

I will always remember watching Teal work at the East Carolina Novice stake 8 or so years ago when our families first met.......He was a great competitor and a fine dog. We will miss him too.

Teal was a wonderful ambassador for the Spaniel wolrd. His and Chris' accomplishments were what inspired us to "reach for the stars" with Gurley, Nappy, Gumbo, and Bunny. Teal was one of the first to prove to the retrieving world that Spaniels can hold their own against other the breeds in the hunt test game. Teal Boy will be missed in the CRC and the HRC community.

Chris, Susan and kids.. I know how special Teal was to your family and am deeply saddened to hear this news, but knew it was coming..

He was a special dog and I know that in that special corner of heaven given to our dear animals, that Teal and others before him are running a Grand Hunt that will never end for them..

    God Bless,

Chris,Susan and kids. I know how hard it is to loose a dog that everyone loved so much. Teal was definately the standard setter in the Spaniel world and, gave all the other breeds a run for their money, also. He will be missed greatly. Maybe puppy breath is the comforter in the near future.

Sorry to hear they become part of the family and their passing is always tough. Thoughts your way. Check out the threepeat lab ad on rtf litter born 10/30 , I've got dogs from first two...very nice breeding at good price. You can pick-up and get a duckhunt in as well...Stuttgart!

    Chris, Sue and Kids:

I can remember so clearly how badly Nancy, the boys and I felt when our Golden Retriever passed away a few years ago, and I am sorry that you all are having to go through this. These wonderful creatures become part of our lives and it is just as hard to say goodbye to one of them as any other member of the family. Our thoughts are with you all. - Brian

Darby Family, So sorry to hear about Teal. I remember him at the December club trial with his leg in a cast. He wanted so bad to be out there running. I wish we could have been there to help honor a great.

We are so sorry to hear about your loss. I remember having to chase Susan down to get her with 1 piece of ice when we wet you for 500 points. I also remeber watching Teal compete in the hot dog run the year he won Nationals. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
