    Default Slaw

Where is you guys favorite place to get bulk cole slaw?

Also which brands do you prefer? I'm looking for the KFC or Chick-fil-a type slaw. Might need to get a small container and do a taste test. I'm pretty particular about the slaw that I like and have had some bad ones.

Need enough to feed 30ish people and not break the bank.

    Publix has some decent slaw.

However, I always make mine. By the time you drive to pick it up you could have made your own.

Cabbage chopped in Food Processor. I don't like big pieces of cabbage
    Dukes
    Sugar
    Onion
    Tiny Squirt of Mustard
    Salt
    Shit Pile of Black Pepper

    Stir

    Taste

    Adjust

    Taste

    Eat

Salty has a jam up recipe too.....

Buy a few packs of the already shredded slaw mix at the grocery store. For the dressing mix 3 parts mayo, 1 part mustard, 1 part honey, and 1 part apple cider vinegar. Season with black pepper and just a few red pepper flakes. Allow it to sit in the fridge for at least a couple of hours before serving. Overnight is better.

FYI if you make your own. For 30 people you will need 5 lbs. of bagged slaw mix...

5lbs. of mix will be about right after you add mayo, buttermilk, and milk. You will end up with around 5 oz pp

It won't be enough for a slaw eating contest, but after adding all the other ingredients (my recipe) he should end up with about 8-9 lbs of finished product. That is about 4.5 oz pp. A restaurant usually gives you a 4 oz portion. Take in to account that coleslaw is usually served as a side dish with a lot more filler items and that 6 or 7 people at of the 30 won't touch it. He should be fine. However, too much is better than too little. I have a pretty good recipe that I will give you cusportsman if you are interested. Sams has 3lb bags of slaw mix for around $3.50 if you have a membership.

I don't know how you are going to get better than half a gallon (4lbs) of liquid to mix with with 5lbs of cabbage unless you're making soup. I only use about 3 cups of dressing to 5lbs of cabbage.

5lbs slaw 3cups mayo 11/2 cup buttermilk 11/2 milk = 8lbs. Lemon juice, onion, sugar, pepper, vinegar will add a little extra weight. Let it set up for a couple hours and drain a little of the extra liquid and you will have around 8-9 lbs.

For some reason slaw is always one of those things that taste better when someone else makes it. My partner makes great slaw.

I like a vinegar based slaw vs. mayo too but can't remember ever having what I would consider to be "bad" slaw. Some are better than others no doubt.

    Salty's slaw is the shiznit.
