Wish I had a friend with a dove field.

Don't be towing a 4 wheeler or one of those new fab atvs into someone's place either, especially without asking. Be prepared to walk or hop into someone's truck bed. It ain't about your own personal comforts. So be able to be limited to what you need to get by the next few hours, or half hour with. There arent many comfy vests made, I've got a mesh filson strap that's doable. If not it's a belt. Solid vests for first seasons aren't cool.

I throw maybe close to a box of shells in my left vest pocket, a perrier and a can of dip goes into my right.. along with my phone. Digging into your back pocket, and fumbling around with birds overhead is silly. My gun goes in my right hand, then a stylish directors chair folded can be slung over my shoulder.

If you don't have a good dog, shoot singles only, go find it, then proceed to work on the remainder of your limit.....

Take a couple gallon sized ziplocs and two frozen bottles of water with you. Ants are hell in every dove field so put your birds in the ziploc with the ice instead of just tossing them in a pile near you.

When half the field has the limit, and you’re having a poor shooting day, just quit and lie saying you have the limit. Staying in the field and framming away at folks’ birds is unsavory. Tomorrow will be better. And don’t shoot better than Ralph. Did that once and haven’t been invited back

This is a really good one! As a manager I have seen this a few times and it’s not a good look. We now have a cut off time. If you don’t have your limit by 5pm to bad!

The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Tool add to this if I am invited on a shoot I usually shoot 10 birds no matter what. Being greedy is sure fire way to never get invited back.

My filson belt starts to really sag at 12 early season birds. When it starts to sag, I quit. Sometimes it’s 14, sometimes it’s 10. I don’t ever stay long enough to reach a cut off time. I’m either done or pissed

my old belt basically dry rotted, I made the switch to Hart's old belt a couple years ago.. I had to punch a couple new holes in it. I cannot remember the last time I shot over a dozen birds.. we've blown our hunts on and off for years, pretty particular about stopping times.

And…pick up your empty shells and take them home and throw in the trash. Whoever owns the field isn’t your Mama and it’s not their job to clean up your trash. Be respectful of the other folk’s property.

I’ve shot a 28 ga for a good many years, so I feel like folks will know if they are my hulls. Shells I’m the right pocket, hulls in the left, doves in the trunk

I will pick up all my hulls and then some from the year before. I bought one of those foldable magnet sticks it makes a world of difference picking the hulls up.

My pet peeve is someone shooting a bird and on the way to pick it up they shoot at another.
