    Default Sportin' was right

Deer do eat sunflowers in Lower Richland County. They cleaned us out...

Anyone with a good shoot this year remember your humble forum provider and extend an invite so I don't have to go fishing every Sarriday...

You could always plant buckwheat/millet combos, works for me. Ya'll boys tear me up, year after year ya bitch about deer eating the hell out of the sunflowers, yet every year you do the same ol shit. What's up wif that? Buckwheat and millets may not draw quite the numbers, but at least you have something to shoot over. JAB, I'll save you a spot!

Get a load of turkey manure spread over your sunflowers when the deer start in on um. That's what we used to do before we put up our electric fence and it worked well until it rained.

They were killing my field in May. Destroyed almost 3 acres in less than two weeks. I decided to give a home brew a try.

I mixed 2 gallons of TEXAS PETE, 4 lbs of CAYENNE PEPPER and a bottle of DAWN DISH LIQUID with 150 gallons of water. Took the filters out of my spray tips so the pepper would not clog them. I sprayed at a rate of 15 gallons/acre. This stopped them DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS. No more damage and the remaining 20 acres are looking great. I will definitely do this again next year.

We had five acres decimated in two weeks. There is something that you can get that I found out recently but I can not rmember the name. Basicly, it's human crap in pellet form. I found a few farmers around here were using it. Too late now.

When my Poconite wore off, they wore my flowers out. Total loss, just dry stalks. It WAS a pretty crop. Oh well, I replanted with buckwheat to complement the regular wheat. The deer are now all over the buckwheat. I know where there will be a bow stand for the opener.

Without the Dawn, that would be a recipe for a good batch of sunflower seeds to eat!! Make sure BigBrother don't get in them, I've seen him eat Salty's jalapeno burgers like they're going out of business!
