"Safer" is when you unload the gun before changing chokes. I know even an empty gun is dangerous, but for the sake of certain others...

I think I use my Trulock Skeet 2 choke for just about everything from doves to ducks. In George Trulock's terminology, Skeet2 = Light Modified (inbetween improved cyl and mod). It's a great choke and seems to throw a pattern about the same as my factory modified but it's more uniform with fewer holes. I might have to pick up an improved modified from him for those "reach out and get em'" days.

man, all those fancy chokes aint gonna get you nothin, just like my buddies, buying benelli this, black cloud that, man im gonna give it to you straight, i have shot a 250 dollar 870 for years, with a factory modified, downed plenty of ducks, and it gets used for a boat paddle and walking stick before i even get to the shooting,we have been killing ducks for years with 2 3/4 shells, single shots, and army navy camo, you know its just like a magic fishin lure all they catch is fishermen.

chomp-n-choke modified is all I shoot. I rarely ever have cripples but then again we only shoot at them when they are close (30yds and in) or decoying. Its ticks me off when I hear people say they shot 3 but they could only find 1 of them. I've heard that several times from guys I know but guess what, they shoot X-Full chokes and pass shoot ducks at 50yds plus. They have asked me several times to go with them but I refuse to go.

I've shot mod for the last couple of years and went to IC this year. So far, I am liking the change as my shooting performance to this point is better. We'll have to see what the rest of the year brings.

please dont tell me that you shoot 3 1/2 BB's at ducks.

IMO 3 1/2 shells is one of the worst things to happen to duck hunting in recent years.

3 1/2" BBs are made exclusively for skybusters and rubberheads.

really guys...open choke WORKS...damned sure ain't an expert, but i must say, in my opinion learn two things: how to get 'em close(only takes about ten years of REALLY learning) & for the love of God, practice shooting until you can say without bragging..."if i point at it, it falls!"...(i feel like i'm closer to gettin' 'em closer than ever before & i ain't quite to that last part yet, but still practicing!) rob
