    Default Gizzard shad

Has anyone started catching any gizzard shad behind the wateree dam yet? I'm think about starting to catfish up their, if the shad are running.

I think we're going to try them saturday moring. Between a cast net and a dip net maybe we'll get some. It's hard to dip shad since they built the concrete pad up there.

The river is out of the banks as I type this. Check the water level before you go.

And ditto about the damned pad.

Get you a pool cleaner and attach your net to it. Works like a charm.

    Sounds good.

Soooo do you just tie a dip net on to the end of the cleaner or what?

It's according to the type net and rod you have. Just make sure you have it secure. Those rocks will rip them right off if not. It does not have to be a pool cleaner just something you can secure it to that is long enough to reach the water level. Right now the the force of the water will probably rip it out your hand. Better wait until the water slows down some.

    Thanks.

My rig has a six foot wooden handle and a metal mesh net that worked great until the pad was built. I never thought about a pool cleaner or something of that nature.

Went last Friday morning before going fishing for an hour and nada-not even a threadfin-wheels 1 and 3 on.

Think this high water may mess them up for a while more.
