If you haven't fished the entire stretch of the East Fork of the Chattooga (from the main branch of the Chattooga to the hatchery) you are an amateur rock hopper.

I have fished that stretch also Swampy... in fact, after camping for three days at Shining Rock the urge suddenly hit me on the East Fork and I was forced to take an emergency waders off dump within plain site of the hiking trail... it was risky, risky business with all the hikers. Then I fished on up to the hatchery and then back down to BF.

Amen! Hiking to Ellicot (sp?) Rock is a challenge too. We've got a cadin up in that neck of the woods and it seem like I spent half of my childhood up there.

A lot of browns on that run.... I caught my biggest SC trout in a small, deep, shady pocket on the East Fork back in the late 70's... 19" brown on a 1/32 oz. Panther Martin.

    Deadly.

I caught another 20 fish before 8:30 this morning.
    I'm starting to get addicted.

Just love how acrobatic these little fish are.

I love stock trout. Taste kinda fishy.

In all seriousness, that is an awesome streach of the river. I have some great memories of fishing it with dad as a youngin' and carried it right through college. A few years ago I got a wild hair and deided to put in at Burrells and head north. started fishing above the hatchery fork, did ok, can't mess with the small black rooster tails with gold spoons. Long story short, I was very upset at how the woods were trampled down and trashed up by hikers, campers, and fisherman. I want to take my son(s) to some of the spots that meant so much to me as a child, but they all are trshed now. Very depressing!

I got em yesterday on a 20 bwo
This morning they wouldn't touch it.

They took a 18 prince nymph, but the bite died by 8:15 or so.

I gotta learn this match the hatch bullshit.

Flatlander? If that hike is a challenge you need to go turkey hunting with me a good bit east of there...

    To highjack the thread...

On a ski trip to WV, the only thing I could think about while driving to snowshoe, was how awesome it would be to chase a gobbler up and down those mountains. I hunt a lot of lowcountry swamps and flat lands...the thought of up and down and around mountains after a bird just intriques the hell outta me.
