I wouldn't go out on the sound in anything relatively flat bottomed.

I have always considered getting an old beater 17' key west CC and rattle canning it. Shallow drafted, wide of beam...dry.
Replace the need for two boats...I wouldnt win any best of show prizes at the landing while fishin'...but be easier come tax time.

Just got back from the OBX and just about every boat I saw was a Jones Brother or a Carolina Skiff. At one of the ramps I saw a couple of PolarKrafts. But every single boat was a CC with at least a 75 HP.
I'm not saying it can't be done. I just prefer not to get beat to death and to stay dry. BTW Jones Brothers makes a very nice boat.

I've hunted that area myself outside of Belhaven, and it isn't no joke! Privateer boats are great boats, and like DC said are made right in the great little town of Belhaven! Nothing less than a 20 footer should be out there. That area will get rough fast and make your asshole pucker faster than your first time in prison!
P.S. Bateau is French for "Flat Bottom - Beat Yo Ass"...
Don't believe everything you think.
Jones Brothers are bad ass. like the Privateer there DC, used to have a few of them and loved them. currently have an 1860 Alumacraft beat yo ass models. it will hold a lot of shit but a pain in the ass to hide
