For optimum performance you will need to run a little positive trim.

    Probably the best answer yet.
Again, a hyd. jack plate is heavy, hence adding more weight to the rear and affecting the COG of the rig. That may require two coolers of beer.

Make sure you fill your empty cans up with water and put them back in the cooler as you go to keep things consistent. It can get pretty scientific out there.

well it is just a pain cause i cant even drive the boat by myself because without a peorson in the front it porpoises to much even trimmed in all the way.

For $35.00 I think I'd try one of these. Like a said earlier they aren't always the best solution but after trying alot of stuff this is what fixed all my problems.

I wouldn't trust a clamp on. You can epoxy the holes if you remove it later. The stingray also has a downturned trailing edge which creates a good bit more drag. The Doel-Fin is a much better product if you ask me.

do you have a breakaway plate on it, I put one on my 1548 w/ 40 mercury and it seems to have angled the motor to much under the boat, I haven't played with it enough to see if it hurts, or helps but I too have a problem with not being able to trim much, I just slow my ass down and problem solved I'll get around to adjusting it one day

Call powertech and tell them exactly what your experiencing and they will help you. My boat was doing the same thing. 1650 Triton with side console and a 60 Merc. 4 stroke. They suggested a semi-clever prop which is designed to lift the stern, rear, of the boat. My boat now handles like a dream and will turn on a dime even trimmed up.

Wouldn't hurt to call them back and see if they can shed any light on your situation.

i have tried not trimming it as much but you can tell the angle is putting increased strain on the motor which in turn in the summer causes it to run warmer which causes power loss.

I have the same boat with a 50 4 stroke Mercury with a breakaway jackplate. I also have two batteries and the fuel tank in the back of the boat. I had the same problem of which you speak. Tried the wedges and different pitch props but the solution was a $55 hydrofoil. I installed the hydrofoil and the boat planes perfectly and runs as it should with the back 1/3 of the boat in the water on plane. I do not know if I lost any speed but the boat runs in the mid 30's with all of this stuff on it. Good luck.

I thought of trying a SE sport 200 or 300 hydrofoil, not sure of which size to use.
