Sumter Ranked #5 in the country

Sumter (WLTX) -- According to a recent study by an independent research company, Sumter is among the top five of the country's metropolitan areas that have one of the highest crime rates.


CQ Press says the metropolitan area of Sumter ranks 5th in the country when it comes to crime in 2007.

The rankings are based on six different crime categories that include murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle thefts.

Last year, when the rankings included larcenies, Sumter was ranked 13th in the nation.

Other cities from our state in this year's statistics include:

Florence - 6th
Myrtle Beach - 14th
North Charleston -21st
Spartanburg - 43rd
Greenville -70th
Anderson - 78th

And now they are talking about another murder in Sumter County. They say it was a home invasion. Do they not think drugs were involved??
