Default "Dad, I just shot an 8-point buck"

I had just settled down in my stand when I heard a shot from behind me. In few minutes the cell phone in my pocket vibrated. It was my Dad, the greatest deer hunter I know, asking if his grandson (my 14-year-old) had just shot. Before I could get a word out, my phone beeped with a call from my son. I switched over, "Dad, I just shot an 8-point buck".

    Woo Whoo.

I gave him is Christmas present, a stainless Browning A-Bolt in .30/06, early at about 9:00 pm last evening. By 8:00 am, less than 11 hours later, he had already had his first deer on the ground, a nice 8-point.

My Dad had picked a spot deep in the woods and set up a stand for his two grandsons. This stand is like he hunts - no corn pile, no field, just a well-placed stand in the deer's livingroom.

Only a father can understand how proud I am. We heading back out to set for the evening...

My Dad and my son with my son's first deer:

    Good stuff!!!
