    Default hog

We have a good number of hogs on our property. What is the best size to take/eating wise. I was thinking smaller the better? Any tips?

Any sow will do. The meat on a boar on the other hand becomes tough and just plain nasty above 150 pounds. If you need a hand with swine control PM me on here and I will get with you and thin them out.

DR, I was wondering about that. I've heard some say you can eat boars fine and others say a big boar is hardly worth feedin to the dogs. I've heard that some other people dog catch and castrate em. They say after a few weeks penned up they're ok to eat. I wonder if anybody on here has tried this? Sounds pretty freakin hardcore to me.

Horseshit. There are plenty of people on this site and across SC that can properly prepare a wild boar in a manner that would make you slap your granny for her lack of cooking skills. If I had a dollar for every old wives tale I read around here...

Right Jab, somebody bring me one and will slap it on the pit and promise you it is better than domestic pig if it is cleaned and cooled ASAP after death.

I meant a large boar vs. a sow not just wild pigs in general. I wasn't tryin to state it as fact since I didn't know. I don't have too much experience hunting pigs. That's why I asked you all. So is my understanding right that you say a large male eats fine? I was wondering bc I've heard some people say that large bucks aren't good to eat either which is complete bullshit in my experience. I can't taste the difference from a doe.

If you catch them via trap or dogs castrate and feed corn for a month I found they will tender up and loose some of that foul taste. However I just dont have the equipment available for that. I am talking based on my first hand knowledge I was not stating anyone can not cook them to taste well. I am just stating the large 150 to 450 pound boars that I have killed were hardley worth my time and effort when it came to table fare. Maybee they would taste better as bulk ground sausage. I like wild hog meat and I hunt them regularly. I can even point some of you to some decent spots that I do not hunt anymore because of new spots I have aquired. I just like sows better, no comparison in venison

Go find a swamp in the lowcountry of south carolina. On that land find an open area. Hunt it. Kill all you want
