From what I have read if a bear wants it bad enough he is gonna get it...
That being said here are a few suggestions I have heard of ( not recommendations)
1) Wrap about four or five strands of barb wire loosely around the base of the tree that you are going to hang your feeder from.
2) Get some 1 1/4" angle iron, you would need two 14' + pieces lay them side by side and attach a cross piece at the top between the two, and another cross piece about 4' off the ground. Attach boat winch, and winch your feeder up. Set both pieces of angle iron firmly in the ground, if permanent some folks use concrete
This should give you a rough idea
I would be willing to pay money for a video tape of Dave:
1-making a bear proof feeder from complex instructions
2-installing said bear proof feeder in a bear proof manner.
3-finding out for the gazzilionth time that his shit aint bear proof.
No shit.

The guys at bass pros...................
Don't put much faith in anything you hear at Bass Pro. Make you a contraption like I posted above or get you some cable and throw it over a limb.
Remember to add a winch. It will get heavy lifting 200lbs of corn up in the air. Just mount the winch on a piece of 3/4" plywood and secure it to a tree. Run cable through the winch over the limb and attach to the feeder.
It is simple Bo'
I can see the next signature line- " Eye chute Bares, periet.........."

Just Damn.

Where In The World Is This Thing Going That You Need To Worry About Bears?

D, you will be much better served by asking yourself why someone would tell you modify or "improve" something you already have. Especially if that person or those persons stand to profit in some way. Folks in sporting goods are your buddies as long as you are buying something.

I do believe this is your POS feeder, right?
Why in the hell do you want to protect that thing from being destroyed? You would actually be doing yourself a favor by having it crushed by these local SC Bears.
Where do you hunt? I never want to enter any woods that you might be hunting. You are CLUELESS.

Aint that the damn truth
Dave,
You've got tough skin. I'm glad they haven't run you off.
Although I use tripods now, I have used hanging feeders and if I had bears around to bother them, I'd still be hanging them.
You need to plan on hanging it high enough not to spook deer. When the feeder swings in the wind, it can spook deer and ruin a good spot. Try stretching some cable between two trees about 20 or 30 feet from the ground. Pine trees are great for this since you can use a climber to set up this cable. Don't use rope because critters may chew it and make your feeder a death trap for you. Leave enough slack in this cable to accomodate the swinging of the trees without pulling the cable tight. From the middle of this cable, hang a pulley substantial enough to hold at least double the weight of your full feeder. Get a pulley with a big diameter sheave. Run the cable from your winch through the pulley and to the feeder. You may want to add legs to the feeder so you can lower to the ground without it sitting on the timer. It's also easier than trying to fill a swinging container. You will need to attach the winch to a tree. Don't mount it underneath the feeder, just in case something breaks. Plan on over-engineering the rig because a feeder full of corn is damn heavy. Make sure the rachet on the winch is in good working order because a runaway winch will break your hand or knock out your teeth. Trust me on that.
Here's how I hang em high between two pine trees....
No nails in trees. Chain, 340lb cable, 2 pullies, boat winch
This feeder was replaced with a 30 gallon drum feeder
Good looking idea there M2!
