What Salty said, Brinkman blue dot, lower candle power = more battery life. Cordless lights aren't worth a crap in the cold...option to go corded or cordless = more things to go wrong.

The brighter the light the farther away it can be seen...I'm just sayin'.

I use Q beams max million spotlight to run at night, and it puts out plenty of light, but I wish it had a wider, and softer beam to use during the heavy fog you get when the air temps start to drop, and the water is still warm.

I use the same thing. If you want to diffuse the beam you could use tinted cellophane or if you know where to get it, lighting gel. Hell, you could even cut a piece of translucent food storage bag and use that. Place it behind the lens, should work fine for diffusion.
