'Black Hole' is now a racist term

Dallas County officials spar over 'black hole' comment

A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon.

County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.

Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.

Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud "Excuse me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a "white hole."

That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.

Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term. A black hole, according to Webster's, is perhaps "the invisible remains of a collapsed star, with an intense gravitational field from which neither light nor matter can escape."

Other county officials quickly interceded to break it up and get the meeting back on track. TV news cameras were rolling, after all.

One of my residents recently had to apologize to a minority nurse who became irate because he said a minority patient was "non-toxic" (which is a term that is used daily in Emergency Medicine on nearly every patient meaning basically "non-critical")

She said she had never heard that term before which puzzled us more than anything.

Trap, why did the resident "have" to apologize?

Did the "administrator" who should have been addressing the offended for her lacking jobskills and possibly even discussing with her that being a trouble maker is no way to make friends and maintain gainful employment misdirect his efforts toward the resident accidentally?

And finally, has the offensive word been removed from the workplace?

Inquiring minds want to know.

his attending physician made him apologize... the young doctor didn't mind, he is a yankee liberal who felt he must have been in the wrong. I have said the term in front of her on purpose at least a dozen times since then with no evidence of a problem. Which is the way it should be, since 9 out of 10 patients that we see are documented as non-toxic.

Fact of the matter is she is a horrible nurse and an even worse assistant nurse manager, so bad that they took her out of clinical duties, then took her out of management duties and most recently found that she could not even make out the staffs schedule reliably.

It has been my experience with associates that perform below par or all else remaining normal, that they find some ACLU shit to complain about.

All it is, is a stay of execution. They last a little while longer for their efforts, long enough to build a legitimate case for termination.
