    Default Cold winter

Early indications are that we are looking at an early and cold winter from the plains east to the Atlantic coast - the closest analog yr is 1989! - hope this pans out, but remember 1989 was the yr of Hugo too and the early cold turned to warmth early in Jan too - worked out fine that yr since the season went out on the first Sat in Jan(I think it was the 6th that yr) back then - still had what we need now - 30 day seasons.
Just hope we'll have some water and enough ducks to make the trip if this pans out

nab, i just hope we got some water. Either that or i'll have to pawn the new boat and get a 4 wheeler and a layout blind for duck season

    Nab,

Got a link or reference on that early, cold winter? NOAA's Climate Prediction Center is showing above normal temps for the eastern seaboard through January of '09.

That sounds a little more accurate.

accuweather.com - you'll need to sign up for a trial run on their professional site in order to check out Joe Bastardi's forecasts.
I've been following his forecasts and predictions for about 5yrs - he's usually pretty good - he's been either right on or real close since I've been following him - he makes some great long range forecasts.
He's also blowing holes in the political/money driven theory of "global warming" - it's worth the monthly subscription just to follow the global warming theories!

'89 was also the year we got hammered w/ about 6" of snow in the lowcountry. That would be nice.

It snowed on Sat and Christmas was on Monday - and it was cold!
I remember we went hunting down in forks of the Wateree/Congaree - killed some ducks in the snow - around mid-day on Sat. - got back to 601, pulled the boat out and the water draining out the exhaust froze running down the motor!
It was beautiful and those greenheads looked great in the snow!

That snow was one of the few times, that I have seen, where field hunting big ducks in SC was deadly. The ponds froze and ducks were landing all over the place. Every time a blackbird would light, there would be 100 mallards circling him and then a thousand circling them. What I would give to have had the camera back then...

    Those pictures never get old.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

It is a shame there are so damn few of them anymore. Even in Saskatchewan it hardly ever snows...

it was snowing in Chincoteague last year with the sun shining... it was beautiful and caused me to lose concentration and whiff on a black duck.
