We could always look in a history book and find an examples of empires that ran itself into the moral abyss, overtaxed its subjects and overextended its attempt at world dominance.

Victor Davis Hanson has a new book out called The Dying Citizen that covers precisely that from the Greeks, Romans, etc. and puts it in context with all that is happening now. It's a very good read but it will scare you about how close we are to losing the best experiment in self-government ever on this planet.

Except I am correct. What you fail to appreciate is that when a defendant is in default, he can’t mount a defense. He can cross examine on damages at a damages hearing IF he appears. Thus, the judge could give the plaintiff what he asked for. Thanks for setting me straight though, smart guy.
