    Default Dog “training” collar

Wanting to start taking my dog with my on the boat and hunting. Pretty well behaved and typically stays close but looking for an option to ensure he doesn’t run off. What are my options?

    Sportdog WetlandHunter 425.

I use it on my chocolate lab and if it works on his hard headedness, I'd say it'll work on any dog.

Garmin Sport Pro with the green controller was solid. Got some buddies that still have them. Only reason I don’t is my current dog came with a Dogtra. Garmin has a little flashlight function on the collar, which doesn’t help the dog but does make it easier to see where the dog is if you’re out putting out decoys and they leave their stand.

I just bought a cheap one on Amazon. $40 or so and it does all I need it to do. Beep, vibrate and shock. Jugbow and I believe was the name brand. Waterproof and whatnot. We’ll see how it holds up.

Friend of mine had an inexpensive Amazon one that served him well for a few years.

I have always bought sportdog brand. The first one I ever had was great, replaced the batteries once, kept going strong until I lost it in the woods one morning. My current one is probably 8yrs old on the original batteries.

    That's pretty solid for sure.

If we were doing some serious training in the woods, we'd go a more reputable route more than likely. I'm not one to shy away from nicer things when they are warranted but for what we are doing, simple get attention, come here, stop digging, don't jump up on the table type of ques, this cheap thing is doing just fine.

Garmin Sport Pro. Only complaint I have is there is sometimes a decent lag from when I push the button to when the collar responds. I notice it when using the tone feature. Also, don't leave the collar on the dog too long. It will create sores similar to hot spots.

Another Sport Pro fan here. Been using the Garmin/Tri Tronics products for about 25 years at this point and will continue to do so.

I bought a DT systems off marketplace for $75 while my 2.5 yr old Dogtra was getting worked on at Dogtra. It’s a good unit so far. Cost $125 to get the Dogtra fixed, the board in the collar had gone bad.
