    Default Okeechobee fishing/invasives?

Planning on taking my family down in April to fish. The boys want to catch some invasives while we are there. We are staying in Okeechobee on one of the canals. Any tips?

If you can hit the water with the cast you’ll catch them.

Heres a tip – skip the ditch meat and go catch yourself a snook instead. Either way y'all will have fun.

Alan Zaramba does Everglades & canals in south fla. Look him up. Went with him a few years back & it was awesome. Also look up the guides shooting the iguanas with high powered pellet guns.

I don't want to make a hobby out of it, but shooting iguanas from a boat is something I want to do at least once. I've shot some Egyptian geese before as well in different parts of the world, but I'd like to go shoot some down in Florida too.

No boat needed. Just go to the Keys and whack them in the yard.

Oscars cannot resist crickets. Many years ago, we had a pair in an aquarium in the office where I worked. We'd bring in a tube of cricket to feed them. They'd eat one after another and still eat after they were pooping whole crickets and you could see cricket legs in their throats. They absolutely could not resist them.

Oscars are incredibly aggressive. We caught them as fast as we could keep a small white spinnerbait in the water. Be mindful that they tear baits up pretty badly so be prepared.
Them that don't know him won't like him, and them that do sometimes won't know how to take him

This. Take you a 30 rack of beetlespins and have a ball, for a day.

We ate them on our camping turkey hunt. The meat is orangish, but they were tasty fried.

When I was single I had a couple large aquariums.. like 100 gallons. One was dedicated to my Oscar named Beauregard, that bastard was mean and huge. I kinda want to fry some up.

We caught more Mayan Cichlid than anything. Fish the canals along hwy 27 below South Bay.We caught plenty of Oscars as well. They love crickets.
