Default Thoughts on how to kill a mature buck in December?

So, without putting out corn or hunting over a food plot, any thoughts on how to hunt a mature buck in December?

In general, I see bucks from August to November, maybe the first few days in December then they seem to disappear from the planet. I have a lot of stands. Some are on roads, others over cutovers of various ages, some just in the middle of mature woods. I have a climber that I can use too. I also have a couple of portable tripods.

Follow the sign. Hunt the in or around the nastiest thickets you can find.

I like cutovers on a cold morning wherever that morning sun is first going to start warming things up.

Warm spots for sure. I have a berm in the marsh behind the house that the marsh cats flock to. Thursday, there was a big 10 point laying in the exact spot. I need to check it out with a thermal to see what is going on there...

Thanks CC. I've got three cutovers of different ages and a transmission right-of-way that might just work. I might have to apply "hunt the front" mentality to deer too.

Hunt the clearing next to a residence or high traffic area where they are comfortable.

Hardwood drains that lead to clear cuts or food sources. If you can enter an area without getting winded, find the thickest cover you can climb near.

I saw a nice buck chasing does this morning in a cutover. Came out behind me though no shot. Also it was directly where the sun first came up as mentioned previously.
