Bishop England says no fans allowed at football game vs. Philip Simmons

Bishop England plays Philip Simmons on Sept. 13 at Jack Cantey Stadium on Daniel Island.
Citing "the current climate between our fan bases," among other factors, Bishop England High School will not allow spectators at its Friday night football game against Philip Simmons.
The game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 at Jack Cantey Stadium on Daniel Island.
"Out of an abundance of caution related to concerns posted on social media across the state and country containing threats of violence, and due to the current climate between our fan bases, we have reached out to the administration at Philip Simmons High School and have decided that the varsity football game between our schools that is scheduled for tomorrow night will be played without spectators," Bishop England principal Mary Anne Tucker and president Patrick Finneran said in an announcement released Thursday.
"We will provide free streaming for all those who want to watch the game virtually. The junior varsity and B-team games (Thursday) are cancelled. Safety is always our top priority and is the driving force in this decision.
"As a Catholic school, we strive to provide an environment that is not only safe for our community but is also steeped in the Gospel values of faith, hope, and charity. While we are disappointed that these changes are necessary, we hope to move forward by modeling the example of Jesus, the Master Teacher."
A spokesperson for the Catholic Diocese of Charleston confirmed the announcement, but declined to answer further questions. Media will be allowed at the game, school officials said.
