    Default Red Snapper Season

I’m told that was, the entire season, last Friday. Is this true.

Does the recent Supreme Court ruling take regulation responsibilities, like setting seasons, away from the NMFS?

I have wondered the same. Did Congress legislate them the power to set seasons? What about the whale speed that kicks in in 3 months?

Fisheries and seasons need to be the responsibility of the states, period.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

They are, in state waters. Even then people travel to the states with the most lax regulations.

Yep last Friday was it. Complete bullshit. I’ll go along with duck count numbers for example but there is NO. WAY NOAA has all the numbers fir every piece of live bottom, exposed rock, or wreck from out coast to the ledge nor know how many red snapper there are. People I k know that routinely bottom fish catch the shit out if them on marked and private numbers all he time. Divers I know say they see “walls of red snapper” when diving. This regulatory process is FUBARED like half of the other shit the gov touches. I’m not sure how the Chevron Deference doesn’t effect everything that gov agencies rule on from duck seasons and rules to national park opening times that Congress hasn’t ruled on previously. I’ll guesss we’ll see. The boat speed limit is already in effect JAB. I THINK there’s a proposal pending to lower boat size to 35’ for those boats effected. I also didn’t know NOAA had any enforcement power. Friend in Charleston who bottom fishes a lot speaks of them flying drones and planes offshore to monitor closed areas and checking boats returning into the harbor from a NOAA boat. He even said they called one boat that was in a restricted area on the radio and to,d him to stop fishing and return to port and they’d meet him at the dock. Which they did and ticketed him.

Boston tea party? South Atlantic Snapper Party? Class action F-you. Organize it, advertise it, execute it. One fish per boat and back at the dock with news crews and wait in line for the ticket. Find attorneys willing to fight and represent. It will get attention and force change.

Atleast someone is beginning to make some noise. The only recourse right now is defunding some positions at NOAA or zero out certain funding account. I traded several emails last week on this very matter.

Why is it so critical to throw a red snapper in the cooler? Serious question. Are there no other fish available? Is the table fare that good? The regulations do nothing to prevent you from fishing for them.

I have no stake in it but always curious if there was a reason people care so much beyond the “government tells me I can’t” reason.

It’s critical because maybe I want to catch one. That’s a good enough reason.

You can legally catch one every day of the year.

Sounds a little bit like “Why does anyone need an AR-15”…..

A little apples to oranges here, no one is saying you can’t fish for them…outside of the government saying you can’t, why is it so critical? What about red snapper makes it that important to put in the box? Why not fight against all regulations?

Im genuinely curious why it matters so much as no one has ever been able to explain it to me beyond bitching about NOAA.

Well, if we don’t kill some on the 100’ and under bottom soon, there won’t be anything but them, ringtails and pinkies on the reefs. They eat BSB and small grouper like crazy.
