    Default Revolver for Woods Carry

Who still carries a revolver as your woods gun? What is your choice and why?

Right now, I am most often carrying a S&W 520. It is basically a blued .357 Mag 686 with a half lug 4” barrel and 7 shot titanium cylinder. I like everything about this gun. The cylinder is most often loaded with three snake shot rounds and four 38 Specials. However, I am thinking of moving to a .44 as we are seeing a lot of hog activity on our property. S&W has the Model 69, a 5 shot 44 Magnum on an “L” size frame which is appealing.

Any experience with this model 69?

S&W 686 is my go to. First two are snake shot and 4 .357jsp for warm blooded pests with 2 reloads on the holsters shoulder strap.

S&W 65-5 4" barrel, stainless. I'll have some snake shot loaded Depending on where I am and time of year. I've killed hogs with it.

.38/.357 will kill any hog at normal distances. I have killed an awful lot with a .22LR.

I tote a j frame 357 in my pocket daily so i guess its my woods carry too. In woods i usually tote a 629, a governor or a g26. As much as people think they are gimicky, the governor is really nice. 2 no 8’s and then 4 hollow point or hard cast 45 Colt loads handle anything i need

On the 44 mag, imo. Ive owned 629’s in 3,4 and 5” and shot 6 and 8 3/8”. The 5 is goldilocks for sure. The 69 isnt that much smaller or lighter than the 629 to notice in a good holster. If you went single action, go with 5.5” super blackhawk. 7.5 is nice for hunting but kinda pain to tote. You shoot anything less than a 5” with full power mag loads without ear plugs and it feels like tyson punched you in the left ear.

I like my little Airweight S&W 351PD in .22 Mag.

4 rat shot and 3 Hornady Critical Defense.

I'll sometimes mow grass with it and fill it with rat shot. Makes the 3hr mow more fun (at times).

3” S&W Model 65 is my do everything pistol.

I hunt with a pair of .41 Mags, S&W 657 and a Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter.

    Why revolvers versus semi-autos?
