    Default Missing boater NC

Has anyone been following this story. Jeff Kale went offshore Saturday afternoon by himself at 3:30 pm out of Shouthport, NC. My wife went to highschool with Jeff so she's been following it.

Coast Guard suspended search but word is the boat was found a couple hours ago unoccuppied, so at some point he went overboard. Terrible

Why would you go offshore alone and at 3:30 pm departure? There's a final video on his facebook page he took while leaving out saying "Just me and the poles"

I saw a man fishing by himself in the Gulfstream out of Morehead city. That sighting was verified by my captain as well.

I guess the thing is, if you want to go fishing, you’re going fishing.

Everyone get themselves a properly rated (for offshore, a Mustang) automatic inflatable vest and wear the damn things. Who cares about cool, what's cool is coming home after a great day of fishing or even a bad day of fishing and boat trouble. Since the boat has been found hopefully they can find him or bring some closure for all involved. The clock and water temps are not his friend in this instance, but crazy stuff happens.

They are great and all, and surely he had one on. They help you float. Hypothermia still kills you if you don't have a PLB attached to tell anyone where you are once you are out of the boat on a solo trip...

Leaves at 4pm to go fishing offshore, this seems odd.

Yep and Sat AM was SCA. It was still blowing 15-20 out of the NE when we went out on Sunday AM and rough. Didn’t lay down until about 2:30-3:00 Sunday.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Prayers for the family, as far as him leaving late and being solo, nothing out of the ordinary...I've done it many times, just gotta know your equipments capabilities and keep a close eye on weather and Radar..

From folks I talked to the way the boat and rods were found it sounds like he might have been fighting a fish and may have wrapped his hand in the leader when the fish made a run. Prayers for the family… just awful.

Why are the outriggers jacked up? May have been fucking with them and caught a trough. Sad situation regardless.

Those are high speed rigs for wahoo. No telling what could have happened. It’s not that hard to end up in the water, and being by yourself, that is a death sentence in rough water

No doubt. Remote kill switches, PLB, etc fall under this same envelope. Even with the Inflatable PFD on in that cold water you don't have a ton of time.

There’s a place in Wilmington IIRC that services them.
