    Default Short hunt “long read”

Haven’t had time to get to the woods untill this morning. Ran around yesterday trying to find some 20 gauge TSS. Ended up running up to a buddys house and buying a box off him at 9:00 last night. Got home and found that my 870 firing mechanism wasn’t working correctly and the trigger not reseting properly. Ended up pulling out my old Browning gold 12 gauge and scrounged up 4 Federal #5’s that weren’t rusted or swollen all to crap from being in the toolbox of my old hunting truck. Pulled up to the shop at 6:50 to 3 birds hammering 200 yards down by the swamp. Slipped in to 100 yards and made 2 clucks and a purr and shut up. Heard them pitch down about 7:15 and seen them strutting at 80 yards for a few minutes. Finially clucked 2 times and a purr and they came running. Shot him in the face at 30 yards stone cold dead. From the time i opened the door of the car to standing over him was 32 mins. 20 lbs 9” beard and 1” spurs. Now time to tear into the 20 guage so i can try out that TSS.

That old browning throws a great pattern but it’s long and heavy compared to that youth model 870 20. It’s like carrying a feather to the woods with you.

That 99 camry has hauled alot of dead critters for sure. Just under 71k miles on her and i love it. Hauled a 182lb 8 point 2 years ago with it and hope to carry 3 turkeys out this season.
